East Fork Illinois River

Project #: 247610  –   Updated: December 17, 2014

Project Summary

We now own a 43-acre floodplain property on the East Fork of the Illinois River in Josephine County adjacent to a 200-acre conservation easement we also hold. This reach of the river provides excellent habitat for juvenile coho salmon, Chinook, and steelhead and includes complex back channels, wetlands, and riparian forest. While mostly floodplain, the land also has some serpentine influenced meadow, oak woodland scrub, and mixed evergreen forest. Black bear, western pond turtle, wood duck, American dipper and pygmy owl are some of the many animals that use this special place.
